Re: The extreme, workerless inquilines.

Beitragvon Merkur » Sonntag 21. Oktober 2018, 09:51

Formicidae).” - Mitteilungen der Schweizerischen Entomologischen Gessellschaft, vol. 26, no. 2, p. 81-128.
(48 pp, 26 figs. - [1953-06-20])

Er ist online einsehbar: https://www.e-periodica.ch/digbib/view? ... 6::101#102

MfG,

I know that the first one is a conference paper but it is a charming little introduction to Teleutomyrmex. And still very good.....

Beitragvon Teleutotje » Donnerstag 6. Dezember 2018, 23:16

Now, let me explain. It was shown by Ward et al. 2015 ("2014") that Teleutomyrmex and Anergates should be synonymized under Tetramorium but, surprisingly, they kept Strongylognathus out of it. It should be a synonym of Tetramorium but the name should not be Strongylognathus but Tetramorium ("better name'). But if you do it, do it good and synonymize it like it should... so: Strongylognathus.

Tetramorium Mayr, 1855.

Tetramorium [Myrmicinae: Tetramoriini].
- Tetramorium Mayr, 1855: 423. Type-species: Formica caespitum, by subsequent designation of Girard, 1879: 1016.

Maybe this belongs here but... Personally I think this is a workerless inquiline, NOT extreme...

Maybe, just like Teleutomyrmex, we should consider A. atratulus Schenck, 1852 not a member of Tetramorium, so T. atratulum (Schenck, 1852), but a member of Strongylognathus, so S. atratulus (Schenck, 1852).

But then you also have S. microgyna (Santschi, 1918) and S. parasiticum (Bolton, 1980)!

Betr.

An update on the distribution and hosts of the parasitic ant Teleutomyrmex schneideri Kutter, 1950 on the Iberian Peninsula (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Abstract: The morphological and ethological adaptations of the genus Teleutomyrmex to parasitism, in addition to its scarcity, give its species the status of veritable myrmecological gems. Two species are known from the Iberian Peninsula, T. schneideri and T. kutteri, the latter endemic. Both are considered threatened species by the IUCN in the Vulnerable category. In this paper five new Iberian localities are given for T. schneideri (only one was known), and Tetramorium alpestre and T. impurum are identified as their hosts in the Iberian Peninsula. Key words: Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Teleutomyrmex, Tetramorium, ants, parasitism, new hosts, Iberian Peninsula.
