I must sincerely correct this:

Re: The extreme, workerless inquilines.

Just two small remarks about those articles of Stumper.

First I mentioned already. Stumper asks how far ants will evolve... This is a question that bothers me already a very long time. He sees that maybe they become ectoparasites in the "small" sense, nl. that they will become completely dependent on their hosts. So no more free flight but stay on the host forever and copulate there. Want to know if a parasite is found obeying to this rule...

Second. Stumper has published his 1950 article just after Kutter's description and a year earlier than his article about the behavior of the animal. So it is a very important article because it gives already a lot of info found in his 1951 behavior article. Great. A very special article indeed.

I must say that this 1950 article is already a very long time in my possession but I only recently found it again, after +/- 30 years. How good was my relocation and packing all out of the boxes all was in for so many years...

Re: The extreme, workerless inquilines.

Beitragvon Teleutotje » Samstag 7. August 2021, 12:50

First: Yes, we keep Teleutomyrmex Kutter, 1950 and Anergates Forel, 1874.

All species in these little genera with the names Teleutomyrmex Kutter, 1950 and Anergates Forel, 1874 and, of course, the big genus Tetramorium Mayr, 1855.

Second: No, we don’t keep Teleutomyrmex Kutter, 1950 and Anergates Forel, 1874 but yes, we keep Tetramorium Mayr, 1855.

But: Only a few species in the genus Tetramorium Mayr, 1855 following Ward et al., 2015 (“2014”)…

Tetramorium inquilinum Ward, Brady, Fisher & Schultz, 2015
= Tetramorium schneideri (Kutter, 1950)
Tetramorium kutteri (Tinaut, 1990), still needs a new name
Tetramorium seiferti (Kiran & Karaman, in Kiran, et al. 2017)
Tetramorium buschingeri (Lapeva-Gjonova, in Kiran, et al. 2017)
Tetramorium atratulus (Schenck, 1852)
= Tetramorium friedlandi (Creighton, 1934)
Tetramorium microgyna Santschi, 1918
Tetramorium parasiticum Bolton, 1980

Third: No, we don’t keep Teleutomyrmex Kutter, 1950, Anergates Forel, 1874 and Tetramorium Mayr, 1855.

Or: …, if you follow the line further then Ward et al., 2015 (“2014”), a few species in the genus Strongylognathus Mayr, 1853.

Strongylognathus inquilinum (Ward, Brady, Fisher & Schultz, 2015)
= Strongylognathus schneideri (Kutter, 1950)
Strongylognathus kutteri (Tinaut, 1990), still needs a new name
Strongylognathus seiferti (Kiran & Karaman, in Kiran, et al. 2017)
Strongylognathus buschingeri (Lapeva-Gjonova, in Kiran, et al. 2017)
Strongylognathus atratulus (Schenck, 1852)
= Strongylognathus friedlandi (Creighton, 1934)
Strongylognathus microgyna (Santschi, 1918)
Strongylognathus parasiticum (Bolton, 1980)

In connection with the aforementioned and depicted article:

A question about an original “Book Review” or so…

I don’t know what I must do with this. Must it be or not in the reference list of Teleutomyrmex? I know that it are 4 pages that includes almost 1 full page with a review of Stumper, 1951, Brun, 1952 und Gösswald, 1953. It includes also Kutter, H. of 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1956 about Doronomyrmex, Epimyrma, Plagiolepis and Coptoformica. Now, it is strange to see these articles in the section “Book Reviews.” but the author apologize but says he was only recently given these publications and he thought that they were important enough in connection with inquilinism in Switzerland, made by H. Kutter, to include here. So, it is found that they are so very important that they are included in the “Book Reviews.”, originally only about books.
P.S. I must say that I have it in my possession since the start of my interesse in Extreme, Workerless Inquilinisme. It was together with my 4 original articles about T. schneideri and the original article about A. kohli in one plastic bag and in the other plastic bag Kutter’s “Die sozialparasitischen Ameisen der Schweiz.”

Koehler, A., 1957, “(1) Kutter, H. (1950): Über Doronomyrmex und verwandte Ameisen. Mitt. …“ in the part “Besprechungen.” or “[Book Reviews.]” Zeitschrift für Tierpsychologie, Band 14, p. 130-134.
- 5 pp. , 0 figs. - [1957-??-??].

Re: The extreme, workerless inquilines.

I was wondering why these kept appearing in a word-file on my computer:

Künckel d’Herculais, J., 1882, “Les Merveilles de la Nature. L’Homme et les Animaux. A. E. Brehm. Les Insectes. Les Myriopodes, les Arachnides et les Crustacs. Edition Franaise par J. Künckel d’Herculais. Tome 1.” Paris, Museum d’Histoire Naturelle, viii + 720 pp.

Künckel d’Herculais, J., 1882, “Les Merveilles de la Nature. L’Homme et les Animaux. A. E. Brehm. Les Insectes. Les Myriopodes, les Arachnides. Edition Franaise par J. Künckel d’Herculais. Tome 2.” Paris, Museum d’Histoire Naturelle, iv + 802 pp.
- Tome 2 starts with “Les Formicides.” on pages 1 to 150.

Now I know of course, they weren't finished. Now they are:

Künckel d’Herculais, J., 1882, “Les Merveilles de la Nature. L’Homme et les Animaux. A. E. Brehm. Merveilles de la Nature. Les Insectes. Les Myriopodes, les Arachnides et les Crustacés. Édition Française par J. Künckel d’Herculais, aide-naturaliste au Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle. Tome 1.” Paris, Librairie J.-B. Baillière et Fils, viii + 720 pp.

Künckel d’Herculais, J., 1882, “Les Merveilles de la Nature. Les Insectes. A. E. Brehm. Merveilles de la Nature. Les Insectes. Les Myriopodes, les Arachnides. Édition Française par J. Künckel d’Herculais, aide-naturaliste au Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle. Tome 2.” Paris, Librairie J.-B. Baillière et Fils, iv + 802 pp.
- Tome 2 starts with “Les Formicides – Formicidae Die Ameisen. – The Ants.” on p. 1-150.

Still a very good find (payed it 75 euro's for both of them around 1990, and it seemed to be at least 750 euro's minimum at an bookseller at the same time!). They include all info about 1882, more than the original Brehm books, except determination keys and descriptions....
