Auf den Kanareninseln gibt es Camponotus guanchus mit rotem oder braunschwarzem Mesosoma. Daneben lebt eine Crematogaster alluaudi noualhieri, die ebenfalls solche alternative Färbungen hat. An Orten, wo beide Arten syntop vorkommen, stimmt die Farbe der Camp. mit der von Crem. überein. Das wird als Mimikry gedeutet. Zusätzlich lebt dort noch eine Wanze, die ebenfalls die Tracht der beiden Ameisenarten imitiert.
