Blepharidatta

Sometimes you read an article or you see a photograph of one or more ant species that catch your attention and you want to know more about them. One of those genera that catched my attention long ago was Blepharidatta, at that moment a close relative of the Attini s.s. And I found during all those years only very few articles about those ants....
There are a lot of common English names for certain groups or genera of ants. Some are very well known, like Carpenter ants for Camponotus, Wood ants for Formica s.s., Fire ants for Solenopsis s.s., ..., others less, like Turtle ants for Cephalotes (including the Mirror ant) and, yes, Blepharidatta, the Pizza ants.
And now, we have a revision and review of the biology of the Pizza ants:
Brandão, C. R. F.; Feitosa, R. M.; Diniz, J. L. M. 2015. Taxonomic revision of the Neotropical Myrmicinae ant genus Blepharidatta Wheeler. Zootaxa 4012(1):33-56.
